DIRECTIONS: The first four trail descriptions in this chapter start along Cone Peak
Road (driving directions follow). Directions for TRIP 66 Highway 1 to Vicente Flat
are listed in that route's summary information.
From the north, drive 54 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1 to the
Nacimiento-Fergusson Road junction, on the east side of the highway. From the
south, drive 44 miles north of Cambria and 36 miles north of San Simeon on High-
way 1 to the junction. Kirk Creek Campground is on the west side of the highway,
0.1 mile north of the junction.
Head east on Nacimiento-Fergusson Road and climb 7.3 very windy miles to
the signed junction with Central Coast Ridge Road (better known as Cone Peak
Road). Turn left and drive north on Cone Peak Road.

If you're driving north or south on Highway 101, take the Jolon Road exit, 10
miles south of Greenfield and a mile north of the Salinas River crossing. Take Jolon
Road (County Road G14) 17.8 miles south to the Mission Road junction. Turn onto
Mission Road and drive 0.2 mile to the Hunter Liggett Military Reservation gate (ex-
pect to show your driver's license and vehicle registration to enter). In 2.9 miles turn
left onto paved Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, which winds 17.9 miles to the signed
