Nacimiento Station. Turn right and drive north on Cone Peak Road.
As you drive north on 6.6-mile Cone Peak Road, a saddle at Mile 3.7 marks the
Vicente Flat Trailhead, while the San Antonio Trailhead is at Mile 3.9, and the Cone
Peak Trailhead at Mile 5.2.
Cone Peak Road is closed from roughly November through May (specific dates
vary depending on weather and road conditions). Contact Los Padres National Forest
Headquarters or Big Sur Station for details (see below).
VISITOR CENTER: Pacific Valley Station: (805) 927-4211. Open daily 8 a.m.-5
p.m. The station is on the east side of Highway 1, 3 miles north of the Sand Dollar
Beach Day-Use Area, 60 miles south of Carmel, and 30 miles north of Hearst San
Simeon State Historical Monument (Hearst Castle).
NEAREST CAMPGROUND: Kirk Creek Campground (34 sites, $22/night; re-
servations recommended) is on the west side of Highway 1, 0.1 mile north of the
Nacimiento-Fergusson Road junction. Kirk Creek campsites are available on a first-
come, first-serve basis or by reservation. You can make reservations online at recre-
ation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777. This campground offers magnificent views
of the Big Sur coast and a short trail to the beach.
INFORMATION: Fire permits required for all stoves. Dogs permitted and allowed
off leash, except in designated campgrounds, where a 6-foot or shorter leash is re-
quired. No horses or bikes allowed on trails.
