Chapter 20
Post-Installation Monitoring Tasks
Successfully administering, monitoring, and managing Exadata often requires use of interfaces, tools, and
utilities delivered with Exadata and other Oracle software. In this chapter, we will provide solutions for performing
additional, optional post-installation tasks to improve the manageability and monitoring capabilities of your Exadata
Database Machine.
20-1. Installing Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control Agents
for Exadata
Problem
You wish to register and discover your Exadata Database Machine with Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control to
monitor your entire Oracle Exadata Database Machine, including the compute servers, storage cells, InfiniBand
switches, KVM switch, embedded Cisco switch, Oracle Grid Infrastructure Services, and Oracle database.
Solution
There are two options for installing the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control agents on your Exadata servers:

Using the agent push method from the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control UI
•
Using the Exadata Agent Kit
In this recipe, we will present the steps required when using the Exadata Agent Kit method. The steps in this
recipe assume you already have an Enterprise Manager Cloud Control environment installed. If not, you can follow
instructions in the Exadata Agent Kit
README.txt
to set up a stand-alone Cloud Control environment or install
an Enterprise Manager Cloud Control environment; either way, you will need a functional 12c Cloud Control
environment prior to using the Exadata Agent Kit to install agents.
The Exadata Agent Kit is provided via an Oracle patch, and you can find the latest version of this patch by
referring to My Oracle Support Note 1440951.1. After reading MOS note 1440951.1, download the latest version of
the patch.
After you have downloaded the patch, stage the Agent Kit patch to
/tmp/emkit
directory on your first compute
node, unzip it, and extract the contents using these commands:
[oracle@cm01dbm01 stg]$ cd emkit
[oracle@cm01dbm01 emkit]$ unzip ./p13551607_121010_Linux-x86-64.zip
Archive: ./p13551607_121010_Linux-x86-64.zip
