Objectives of Protected
Cultivation
(Photo 1.5). Greenhouses differ from the other
forms of protection in being more solid and
high and wide enough for cultivation of tall
plants, even fruit trees (Photo 1.6). The dis-
tinction between high tunnels and green-
houses is not always well made and it is not
uncommon to see high tunnels and green-
houses being referred to indiscriminately.
The general objective of protected culti-
vation is to modify the natural environ-
ment, through different techniques, to
reach the optimal productivity of the
