logo and title graphic also can be added to the menu—this is done in the usual way, by clicking the Add button
and navigating to an image file on your computer. You also have the option to add a loop icon to the menu by
selecting the Include Loop Movie Button check box. If you don't have access to a Blu-ray burner and your pro-
ject's running time is reasonably short—around 15 minutes—you have the option of burning an AVCHD disc to
a regular DVD, and the disc will play back in HD in most Blu-ray players. To do this, simply select your Mac's
DVD drive from the Output Device pop-up menu. Once you've chosen your settings, insert a blank disc and
click Burn.
Publishing to the Web
With the popularity of social networking, you'll likely want to upload your work to some of these sites at some
point. Final Cut Pro lets you publish your movie to four popular websites—YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, and
CNN iReport—directly from the Project's Timeline. To upload your video to any of these websites, you need to
first create an account with the site in question, because you'll be prompted for your account details the first
time you publish to the site.
Publishing to all these websites follows the same procedure, so let's use YouTube as an example to walk you
through the process:
1. Select the Project you want to publish to the web in the Project Library or have it open in the Timeline
and choose Share YouTube. A dialog box opens with a thumbnail image of your movie that you can skim
through (see Figure 16.6).
2. If this is your first time uploading to YouTube via Final Cut Pro, you need to add your account details by
clicking the Add button and entering your user account name in the dialog box that appears. You can add
more than one user account, and you can choose which account to upload to from the Account pop-up
menu, whenever you publish to the site.
3. Enter your password in the Password field. This is required every time you publish to the website, for se-
curity reasons.
4. Choose a category from the pop-up menu and enter a title, description, and any relevant tags in the fields
provided.
5. Select the Make This Movie Private check box if you want the movie made available only to people you
approve and not to the general public.
6. Final Cut Pro will automatically size your published movie based on your Project's media, giving you the
highest optimized settings required by the site that you're publishing to. However, you can set a size of your
choice by deselecting the Set Size Automatically check box and choosing a size option from the Size pop-
up menu. Placing your cursor over the blue i icon will show you the finished movie's frame rate, bit rate,
and final file size for the size option that you choose.
