tion of an action, and Katie's roll onto her back provides us with a good opportunity to do this. Make sure
snapping is turned on and position the playhead at 23 seconds and 6 frames in the Primary Storyline (on
Scene 12 Slate 63 Take 4). Press M to place a marker, and press S to turn on skimming if it isn't already en-
abled. Position the skimmer at 21 seconds and 6 frames inside the Timeline (on Scene 12 Slate 62 Take 5),
and press M to place another marker at the skimmer position (see Figure 11.5).
Figure 11.5 Placing a marker at the skimmer position.
Raise the cursor into the toolbar area and then back inside the Timeline using the marker to snap the skim-
mer to this position. When the cursor is inside the Timeline, the Viewer displays the marked position at the
playhead for Scene 12 Slate 62 Take 5 (see Figure 11.6); when the cursor is raised into the Toolbar, the
Viewer displays the marked position for Scene 12 Slate 63 Take 4 (see Figure 11.7). As you move the curs-
or back and forth between these areas, you can compare the two positions on the Timeline to see if they
match. As you can see in this example, Katie's arm is raised in a similar posture in both clips as she turns
over onto her back.
Select the video Out point for Scene 12 Slate 62 Take 5, snap the skimmer to the marker at 21 seconds and
6 frames in the Timeline, and press Option+] (right bracket) to ripple the Out point to that position. Position
the skimmer at the next marker (now at 22 seconds and 8 frames due to the ripple) and press Option+[ (left
bracket) to ripple the In point of Scene 12 Slate 63 Take 4 to that position also. Press Shift+/ (forward slash)
to play back the edit.
