abled, using the keyboard shortcuts zooms in at the skimmer position in the Timeline. If skimming is disabled,
it zooms in at the playhead position.
To zoom in at the playhead position in the Timeline, choose View Zoom In or press += (equal sign). To
zoom out at the playhead position in the Timeline, choose View Zoom Out or press +- (hyphen sign).
If you need to zoom even further into the Timeline, perhaps to do some intricate work on an audio track at the
sample level, you can do this by enabling the Zoom to Samples feature. When it's enabled, this feature allows
you to use the zoom tools to explore your Timeline at scale smaller than that of an individual frame of video.
Figure 5.14 The light gray bar represents a single frame.
To enable Zoom to Samples, choose View Zoom to Samples, press Control+Z, and use the Zoom In and Zoom
Out tools to explore the Timeline at the sample level.
To fit the entire Timeline contents inside the window, choose View Zoom to Fit or press Shift+Z.
Zooming also can be achieved with the Zoom slider at the bottom of the Timeline window or the Zoom tool
available from the Tool menu. Clicking inside the Timeline window with the Zoom tool magnifies the area with
every click, but this feature is not just restricted to the Timeline—clicking over the Viewer magnifies the image
in the same way. Zooming out with the Zoom tool is also possible by holding down the Option key as you click.
A quick and easy way to fit a specific group of shots inside the Timeline window is to draw a border around
them with the Zoom tool (see Figure 5.15). This displays just the clips selected and can be very useful when
you want to concentrate only on a specific section of a sequence. To initiate the Zoom tool, choose the magnify-
ing glass icon from the Tool menu or press Z.
If you're zoomed inside a sequence and you need to scroll horizontally back and forth along the Timeline, you
can do so by using the Hand tool. If you own a Magic Trackpad you can achieve the same result with a two-fin-
ger swipe. To initiate the Hand tool, choose the hand icon from the Tool menu or press H.
