heights from the digital map data, I worked out the angle of the slope and turned
the whole model floor about the Y axis using the rotate tool. Some buildings had
to be slightly rearranged, but this took only a small amount of time.
Stage 9: Mapping Boundary Design Lines
Goal : To map out design lines and edges.
Input : Drawings in primary design lines used to build on later.
Tools : The plug-in Tools on Surface and SketchUp's basic drawing tools.
The Tools on Surface plug-in is invaluable for drawing on angled or curved
surfaces. This plug-in features an additional toolbar that is automatically added
to the original SketchUp toolbars. I used this toolbar to map out all edges,
paths, lines, and surfaces. I was now ready for more landscaping detail.
Tip
Save, save, and save again. After many painful lessons of losing large
amounts of the model through not saving changes, I now save at regular
points and always change the name of the file. This is very useful for
retracing your steps in the unfortunate circumstance of a computer crash.
