Polygon Modeling 1: Carton
Project type : Workshop only
Time limit : Two class periods
Grading : If the project is completed without any errors, it passes. If any mistakes
of any kind are found, it fails.
Supplies/materials required :
A folding carton, cleaned and unfolded
Scan of unfolded carton

Adjust scale so that long edge = 10 cm
Instructions :
First class:

Unfold carton
-
Scan carton, both sides
Stitch multiple scans if necessary
Check scan for errors
Import into scene

Trace carton by making a new polygon
-
Use transform tools as needed to straighten out model
-
Cut fold lines into model and eliminate n-gons
-
Project UVs on carton
-
Make shader
-
Attach carton scan as map
-
Apply shader to model
-
Extrude carton to give depth
-
Make another shader for carton interior
-
Apply shader to interior
-
Re-project UVs on interior only
-
Fold carton using transformation tools
Second class:
-
Check for errors against checklist, and fi x all errors
