Replacing One Face with Another
In cases where a complex shape makes up only a portion of a part, you can replace
a planar face with a contoured one. To continue building the bottle, you'll use that
technique to build a curved face that couldn't readily be created with the original
feature.

Objective
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open c07-12.ipt from the Parts\Chapter7 folder.
At the bottom of the feature tree is a surface feature created by
extruding an open profile. It is also possible to revolve and loft a sur-
face by selecting the option.
2. Click the surface that passes through the part.
3. Select the Edit Sketch tool from the screen.
4. The model will reposition so the view is normal to the sketch.
5. Press F7 (or right-click and select Slice Graphics) to remove the solid
model down to the sketch, as shown in Figure 7.21.
FIGURE 7.21 The Slice Graphics function can expose
sketches within the model.
You will notice that there is sketch geometry that makes up the
perimeter of the portion of the part that the sketch intersects. This
geometry cannot be created using the normal Project Geometry tool.
It has to be created using Project Cut Edges.
6. Use Finish Sketch to return to the 3D model.
7. Expand the Surface panel on the 3D Model tab, and select the Replace
Face tool.
8. Click the large recessed face on the front of the part.
9. In the dialog box, click the New Faces selection button, and then
click the surface.
