Download the
right
WordPress
for you, from
stable to
beyond
bleeding
edge.
The types of downloads, and who might find them interesting, follow:
Stable Download—The safest choice. These versions appear every few months, and have gone
through a fair amount of testing.
Beta Releases—The prerelease version of the next release. Should be fairly stable, but some
plug-ins might have issues. Use beta releases to test your configuration and help find bugs
before installing on your host's server.
Nightly Builds—The bleeding edge of development. As implied, things break—and get fixed—
from day to day in these builds.
Subversion Access—Beyond bleeding edge, this lets you check out, download, and compile the
WordPress source code any time you want. You could, in theory, recompile WordPress each time
any WordPress core developer in the world checked in a new file.
The last two items in the left side navigation are more informational. The Download Counter tells
you how many times the current version of WordPress has been downloaded. The Release Archive
contains links to every WordPress beta, release candidate, and released version, dating all the way
back to 0.71. Don't ever put these versions on a production server!
That completes our tour of WordPress.org.
