and Safari on the Mac, but Internet Explorer is still the most-used browser going. It also has an
excellent feed tool. The user simply chooses Tools, Subscribe to This Feed; the feed shows up in
the Favorites bar. Figure 8.12 shows the feed for Google Voice Daily as displayed by Internet
Explorer. Note that Internet Explorer offers category feeds as well as a feed of the whole blog.
Google Reader —Google Reader is a free reader with no extra software needed, just a Google
account. This reader is so easy to use that it's hard not to “eat all the pies,” add too many sub-
scriptions and grow overstuffed with information.
Bloglines —Also a free online service, Bloglines requires only an account. Bloglines is quite pop-
ular with old-school bloggers.
FeedDemon —This service, like many of the early feed readers, requires you to download a tool
to run on your computer. Once you do that, it's powerful, fast, and easy to use.
RSSOwl —RSSOwl is another downloadable tool, which is open source, cross-platform (Windows,
Mac, Linux), and free.

The really old-school alternative to feeds is to email either a link, an excerpt, or even (gasp) full
posts to people who sign up. WordPress doesn't offer any explicit support for this, but it doesn't
stop you from doing it yourself either.
