La Rosa Inglesa/ English Rose Inn BREAKFAST $
( 787-823-4032; www.larosainglesa.com ; follow signs from Hwy 413 interior;
breakfasts$7-11; breakfast) The trick to this, Rincón's exceptional breakfast place, is
the crusty homemade breads and savory home-stuffed sausage, which turn the egg dishes
and omelets into a real event. The upscale surfers shovel down breakfast burritos and
poached eggs after surfing the morning away, enjoying a view of the water. It's kind of a
pain to get here, situated as it is way up in the hills above town, but the best breakfast in
town and great views are ample reward. To find it, look for signs off Hwy 413…or follow
the crowd.
Tapas Bar TAPAS $$
( 787-823-1525; www.casa-islena.com ; Casa Islena, Hwy 413, Beach Rd; tapas
$7-10; 11am-3pm & 5-9pm) Casa Islena's Tapas Bar serves delicious tapas washed
down with rum-laced sangria. Imagine grilled swordfish in spicy coconut broth, and skirt
steak marinated in ginger, soy and garlic, enjoyed over a scarlet-streaked sunset. The res-
taurant also follows a good environmental code using filtered water (no plastic), biodegrad-
able takeout containers and sustainably harvested seafood.
LPR CARIBBEAN FUSION $$
( 787-823-5654; www.lazyparrot.com ; Hwy 413 Km 4.1; mains $16-21;
noon-9:30pm) Though the food has been serious for years, the place formerly known as
Smilin' Joes has taken it up a notch after changing the name to LPR (for Lazy Parrot Res-
taurant, a part of the Lazy Parrot Inn, Click here ). The dining room is finished with el-
egantly rustic trimmings and overlooks the pool, the green hills and the ocean. Try the
sesame-ginger churrasco steak or the mango-glazed chicken breast and choose something
full-bodied from the comprehensive wine list. Then there's the guesthouse itself, which
provides a strangely romantic setting (considering all the parrot paraphernalia) with its
cleverly lit swimming pool and strategically positioned Rum Shack bar, which lives by its
rather Hemingway-esque motto 'Conserve water - drink rum.'
Libanesa Bakery BAKERY $
(52 Muñoz Rivera; snacks $3-7) Of all the bakeries in Rincón, this takes first prize for
freshness and variety. It's in the heart of downtown.
Antojos CARIBBEAN $$
