Ferry
The high-speed passenger ferries of the Maritime Transportation Authority (Autoridad
de Transporte Marítimo or ATM) run between Fajardo and Vieques four times a day.
Boats leave Fajardo at 9:30am, 1pm, 4:30pm and 8pm and Vieques at 6:30am, 11am, 3pm
and 6pm. Passage takes one hour 15 minutes, weather permitting. The round trip costs a
giveaway $4. A thrice-daily cargo ferry sails from Fajardo to Vieques (weekdays only, two
hours), but rental car contracts prohibit bringing cars on the ferry.
Confirm the passenger ferry schedule in advance, as it does change occasionally. Frustrat-
ingly, advance reservations are not sold; the ticket offices usually open one hour before
departure. Holiday weekends and summertime are peak times when tickets can sell out.
In these situations, Vieques residents get priority and visitors can get bumped. In Fajardo
