neighborhood west of the village. PuntaSantiago has become a bit of a weekend and holi-
day hot spot, and its bright friquitines offer lots of succulent treats such as arroz con jueyes
(rice with crab chunks) and shark nuggets. During the busy season it's fun and upbeat and
nowhere near as crowded as Luquillo.
Activities
Most outfitters operate out of the mammoth Palmas del Mar resort. Golfers can make re-
servations at either of the two golf courses ( 787-656-9040) . The greens fee for the
6800yd Reese Jones course is $135 ($95 after 1pm) for nonguests; the old course (called
'the Palms') has similar prices.
The largest tennis facility in the Caribbean, the resort has 20 tennis courts (
787-656-9043) , but you must make a reservation. Court fees are $20 per person an hour
during the day, and $30 at night.
Barefoot Travelers Rooms HANG GLIDING, KAYAKING

should contact Barefoot Travelers Rooms about hang gliding instruction ($149 per tandem
flight) in El Yunque and kayak/snorkel excursions ($40 per person) to the periphery of
Cayo Santiago.
Captain Frank López FISHING, SNORKELING
( 787-316-0441) The captain offers fishing or snorkeling trips and sea excursions
to Cayo Santiago. Prices are negotiable: start your bidding at about $35. Look for La
Paseadora boat at Playa Naguabo.
Sea Ventures Dive Center DIVING, SNORKELING
( 787-863-3483; www.divepalmasdelmar.com ;MarinadePalmas) Organizes diving
and snorkeling trips to Cayo Santiago and the deeper sites offshore (there are 35 within
a 5-mile radius). Prices start at $60/119 for a half-day snorkel/dive including gear. It also
does afternoon snorkel trips to Vieques ($75) and Culebra ($120).
