Figure 3.11 Campaign categorization
You can apply any new value for one of the preset categories, or use the ajax
search to use an existing value. You are not forced to use ajax search, but if you find
yourself not using this, you probably created too many campaign categories.
However, note that if you do not enter a value for a particular category, then the
campaign will appear as noncategorized for that category.
Finally, you need to apply your knowledge about how to identify the campaign
(see Figure 3.12).

Figure 3.12 Identifying a campaign
remember that since Yahoo! Web analytics is a real-time system, you can do
an instant test by accessing the landing page or the website serving your advertisement
and see if your visit was properly recorded.
However, be aware of the fact that this does not mean that you can register cam-
paigns retroactively. Your campaign is active from the time you create it, meaning that
you should set up the campaign beforehand. You can, nevertheless, in panic and as a
hack, create a segment based on entry page UrL or referrer UrL, but this is purely to
report back on a missing campaign, and it will not be part of the campaign summary.
it is important to ensure that there are no campaign-tracking string conflicts,
meaning two campaign identifiers that are overlapping. this is a typical error, and i
have seen this overlooked numerous times, even by experienced technical support per-
sonnel. Envision the following campaign tracking strings:
c
ampaign=Google
ampaign=GoogleEU
c
also, envision a campaign identifier as follows:
U
RL contains: “campaign=Google“
since both tracking strings are defined with UrL contains and both strings con-
tain the phrase “campaign=Google” , Yahoo! Web analytics will report this as a conflict.
