in my journal and relax.
The next day, I ate breakfast with Arthur and the other guests and thanked him for
his kindness. Even though it was windy, the cycling was not too hard (I had experienced
worse.) The views were again just incredible and I stopped on several occasions to take
photos from the bridges. I especially liked the approach to Plettenberg Bay for it was so
geographically dramatic. I had lunch at the car park at the top of the hill just before the
steep descent into the town.

The next 32 kilometres to Knysna were delightful. The road rose and fell and twisted and
turned into the forest and I was always being surrounded by the sweet smell of fresh pine.
The road was so peaceful that I didn't notice the distance go by and soon found myself en-
tering Knysna.
I met Ursula and Bertie Gruff who owned a successful butcher shop in town. We
had coffee together and then I was taken to their parents' (Herman and June) home where
I slept. I had a bubble bath (first one ever), dressed and went to a restaurant at the 'The
Heads', sandstone cliffs which guard a narrow inlet to Featherbed Bay. We sat overlooking
the inner bay looking at an incredible view of the waterfront as we ate pizza. I returned to
the house where June made me some Milo before I went to bed.
The next morning, I woke up rather late. Herman and June had breakfast prepared
and we sat to eat together. I sent a fax to Lucy to tell her of the past events and about what
money that was collected for STC. At 10:00 a.m., I bid them farewell after thanking them
for their hospitality and dropped by the butcher's shop to say good-bye to Ursula and Ber-
tie.

a lot of photos. At one point, I cycled down a winding road around a lagoon and just had
to stop for an extended period of time. The reflection from the lagoon really captured my
attention and drew me in to just pause and be in the moment.
Afterward, I climbed for a short time and reached a level area where the bulk of
the day'sdistance was covered. Ihad entered the Wilderness National Lake area, which in-

Danie Bredell and his wife, who I met earlier at the Stormsrivier Bridge, stopped
and invited me to stay with them in Reebok when I passed through. Just as I took their ad-

of us chatted for at least 15 minutes and then I gave them all a hug and we all went our
separate ways.
