The toughest part of the day was when I left Sedgefield (see picture below) and
cycled into Kaaimanrivier. I needed to take several breaks and used the opportunities to
photograph the impressive scenery.
I stopped in Wilderness for a break when Herman, June and their son pulled up be-
side me on their way home from George to say hello. This time they offered me yoghurt,
apples and some more coffee.
Soon after we parted, I arrived in George. I quickly called Philip Hoole (the gen-
tleman who contacted me because of my Radio Algoa interview) and gave me directions
to his architectural office. I found it quickly and met Philip in person for the first time. He
told me that he had arranged several presentations at local schools starting with Convent
PrimarySchool.Withpermission,IcalledbothToniinPortElizabethandManieinBloem-
fontein from his office to say that I arrived safely. Manie wanted me to call his radio show
thenextmorning(Saturday)at7:30a.m.SoIgavehimPhilip'shometelephonenumberso
as not to incur the long-distance phone charges to my host family. Philip then escorted me
to his home and I unpacked my bike and settled in the guestroom. That evening, we went
to a Round Table party who were raising money for the homeless.
Thenextmorning,Maniecalledmeandjustbeforewewentliveonair,heaskedme
to quickly mention the international friendly rugby match between the Orange Free State
and France and to wish the Orange Free State good luck. After a commercial break, Manie
gave me a quick introduction. As promised, before I talked about my trip from Bloemfon-
tein to George, I mentioned the rugby match. I started in a normal, almost casual voice and
wished “all the best to the Orange Free State in their match against France…” Then, in a
loud and deeper sports announcer's voice, I ended, “…and I hope the Orange Free State
shows them how to play the game!”

'YES! Good on you, David.” The interview went really well and so did the rugby match.
The final score was a 22-22 draw which was really impressive. You need to keep in mind
