FIG. 8.29
Adjust the topology of her brow.
We need her brow to l ow from the upper nose out over her eyes. So begin
by adding a Cut above her eye, starting at her nose (Figure 8.29b).
This has given us a triangle, but Merging the upper edge of that and
the edge above it will alter the edge l ow moving it out onto the brow
( Figure 8.29d ).
Now select the edges at the top of the nose (Figure 8.29e).
Merge these to clean the topology, and reroute the upper edge loop.
Continuing with the brow, create a new Cut across her forehead while also
dividing the geometry at the side of her brow (Figure 8.30a).
Next, select and Merge the two edges shown in Figure 8.30b. This will
clean the topology and adjust the edge loop around the eye.
Now move to the middle of her brow and divide the area, as in Figure
8.31a. Doing so gives us a series of eight quads.
Merge the four upper corner edges to eliminate the n-gons, and i x the
edge l ow.
If we look at the head as a whole now, we can see two major problems. First
is the odd shape it seems to be, and second is the overall size. Work on these
now, adjusting both the size and the shape of her head until it looks more
natural, and better proportioned ( Figures 8.32 and 8 33 ).
Returning to the head, we can see a slight topology issue just under her jaw
line. There is an odd quad forcing the edge l ow from the neck up the side of
her head.
Select the edge ring shown in Figure 8 34a. This branches from the
unwanted quad.
Merge these edges.
Now create a new Cut from beside the resulting triangle, down the neck
to divide the n-gon further down (Figure 8 34b).
Deleting the remaining edge gives us a quad, and as you can see, the
edges l ow much better, tracing the line of the jaw in a much better way.
As an added bonus, the edges now also l ow around her cheekbone.
