In-Depth Information
For many printers, the approach with the most accurate results for color
images has been to have Photoshop control the color management system.
However, with black and white processes, the best results have often been
achieved with the printer driving the color management. You need to
experiment with your printer to i nd out which works best for your system.
Rendering Intents
Rendering intents are also an important piece of the color management
system when it comes to the print driver interface. The rendering intent you
choose determines how the color management system will handle the color
conversion from one color space to another. Each rendering intent utilizes
dif erent methods to determine how the source colors of an image are
adjusted to the destination output in the translation process. For example,
translation of colors native to the destination may be adjusted to preserve
the original range of visual relationships between colors, or they can remain
unchanged.
Choosing a rendering intent will produce varying results depending upon
the content of the image and the chosen proi les. Some proi les will produce
identical results for dif erent rendering intents, while others produce
distinctly dif erent results. As there is no “best” rendering intent applicable to
all images unilaterally, it is best to start with either “Perceptual” or “Relative
colorimetric”, which are the most applicable choices for photographic
printing. Experiment with the dif erences as you rei ne your print making
