The performance of an ichnological study helped in the characterization, correlation, and zonation of the reservoir, and in the establishment of a conceptual model.
Ichnograms (diagrams containing the extent of bioturbation), taken from a particular reservoir zone dominated by tidal-flat and bar facies, clearly show proximal-to-
distal and axial-to-lateral trends as the intensity of bioturbation decreases with increasing input of freshwater from the SE. In combination with other ichnological
(e.g., kinds and size of trace fossils, ichnodiversity) and sedimentological data, ichnograms guided the prediction of sand distribution within the area.
