FIGURE 10 Characterization of the impact of bioturbation on reservoir quality, connectivity, and
flow behavior by performing scenario modeling in SBED (Geomodeling). Various kinds of trace
fossils (burrows) are given a specific morphology, size, and variability before they are arranged as
an ichnofabric with different tiers, amount of bioturbation, colonization surfaces, and cross-cut
relationships. Based on process modeling, the heterolithic tidal-flat lithofacies are simulated in the
form of a digital well core and combined with the ichnofabric. Each trace-fossil group has assigned
porosity and permeability values. Numerous realizations, property modeling, and different upscaling
methods allow for comparison of non-bioturbated with bioturbated rock and to identify sensitivities
in bioturbation-related rock properties.
