In-Depth Information
InfraWorks also handles interactions with other items in the model for you. For
example, if you cross one road with another road, InfraWorks will automatically
resolve the intersection and “clean up” the paint striping, sidewalks, and other road
features (see Figure 3.6). Also, if a road crosses a water area or coverage, InfraWorks
automatically displays it on top of those features. In fact, if a road crosses a water
feature, or another road, and the elevation difference is significant, it will automati-
cally place a gap between the two features, simulating a bridge.
fIgure 3.6 InfraWorks automatically resolves an intersection when two roads cross.
exercise 3.2: Create a new road
If you are continuing from the previous exercise, you can skip to step 3. Otherwise,
if you haven't already done so, go to the topic's web page at www.sybex.com/go/
infraworksessentials and download the files for Chapter 3. Unzip the files
to the correct location on your hard drive according to the instructions in the
introduction.
1. If it is not already open, launch InfraWorks.
2. On the Start Page, click Open and browse to C:\InfraWorks Essentials\
Chapter 03\ . Click Ch03 Bimsville Bypass.sqlite and click Open.
3. Select the Ex_3_2 proposal. You should see the model as it would
appear at the end of Exercise 3.1 with the smaller model extent.
4. Click Bookmarks on the Utility Bar to open the Bookmarks panel.
5. Click Tie In Point 1.
InfraWorks will zoom to the south end of the model extent, and
there you will see a pushpin marker indicating the southern tie-in
point for the new bypass (see Figure 3.7).
