The ring that encircles the ViewCube is called the compass (which you may have
guessed considering it is marked with N , S , E , and W ). The compass also provides
information about the orientation of the model and can be manipulated. When you
click and drag the compass, the model will rotate in the horizontal XY plane.
A handy feature of the ViewCube is the ability to click Home. Home is a default
view that you can access at any time if you get “lost” in the model. Typically the
Home view is set such that the entire model is viewed in plan view, but it can be
set to whatever you like. You can activate the Home view by right-clicking the
ViewCube and selecting Home (see Figure 1.16). You can also use the same short-
cut menu to set the Home view to the current view on the screen by clicking Set
Current View As Home.
