exercise 6.3: explore Visual effects
In this exercise you are going to change several 3D Graphics settings and
observe the resulting changes to the appearance of the model.
If you are continuing from the previous exercise, you can skip to step 3.
Otherwise, if you haven't already done so, go to the topic's web page at www
.sybex.com/go/infraworksessentials and download the files for Chapter 6.
Unzip the files to the correct location on your hard drive according to the
instructions in the introduction.
1. If it is not already open, launch InfraWorks.
2. On the Start Page, click Open and browse to C:\InfraWorks Essentials\
Chapter 06\ . Click Ch06 Bimsville Bypass.sqlite and click Open.
3. In the top-right corner of your screen, click the Proposals drop-down
list and select Ex_6_1_to_6_3.
4. Restore the Main Building Site bookmark.
6. If the Presentation toolbar is not already visible, click the Presentation
icon on the main toolbar.
7. If the Visual Effects asset card is not already open, click Visual Effects
on the Presentation toolbar.
8. If the Rendering Options section of the Visual Effects asset card is
not visible, click Rendering Options to expand it.
9. Change the setting for High Visual Quality and note the change to
the appearance of the model. When you are finished comparing the
differences, enable High Visual Quality.
You should notice a significant difference in the sharpness and
realism of the model when enabling and disabling this feature.
10. Change the setting for Ambient Occlusion and note the change to the
appearance of the model. When you are finished comparing the dif-
ferences, disable Ambient Occlusion.
You should notice some subtle differences in the way certain sur-
faces are shaded. Overall, the model should look slightly more realis-
tic when this setting is enabled.
11. Click and drag the slider for Terrain Opacity so that the value is
roughly 10.
Note how you can see the underground pipe leading to the pond
now that Terrain Opacity has been reduced.
