working with style rules
So far you have looked at applying styles to one object at a time or applying a
single style to many objects at once. What if styles could be assigned to mul-
tiple objects based on the characteristics of the objects? Perhaps styles could be
assigned based on a building type, the number of lanes for a road, or a species of
tree. This can be done with style rules in InfraWorks.
You can access style rules by clicking Style Rules on the Manage toolbar. This
will open the Style Rules panel. In the Style Rules panel you will see a series of
tabs, similar to what you see in the Style Palette. Each object type in InfraWorks
(buildings, city furniture, roads, and so on) will have its own set of style rules.
Once you've selected the appropriate tab, you can create a new style rule and
give it a name. A style rule has two main parts that you need to configure:
Expression and Styles. The style rule will apply the styles listed in the Styles sec-
tion to any object in the model for which the expression is true. For example,
you could set up a style rule such that all roads in the model that have a MAX_
SPEED value that is less than 45 mph are assigned the style Street w_Sidewalk.
FigureĀ 5.32 shows an example of this configuration.
