working with Pipelines and Pipeline
Connectors
At times you may want to populate your model with underground infrastruc-
ture such as storm systems, water distribution systems, and so on. For these
purposes, InfraWorks provides the pipeline and pipeline connector objects. The
pipeline object is commonly used to represent pipes, of course, but can also be
used for channels and culverts. With a little imagination, pipeline objects could
also be used for things such as tunnels, handrails, tension wires, and many
others. A pipeline object can be created in the form of an extruded shape or a
series of 3D model insertions (similar to a barrier). Available extruded shapes are
circles, rectangles, ellipses, and channels.
Pipeline connectors are commonly used to represent manholes, inlets, or
access vaults. Their function is similar to pipelines except that they are extruded
vertically instead of horizontally. Available extruded shapes are circles, rect-
angles, and ellipses. Pipeline connectors can also be created as 3D models.
FigureĀ 4.27 shows an example of pipelines and pipeline connectors being used to
represent a storm system.
