In-Depth Information
the rotate gizmo The rotate gizmo rotates the entire water area around a
point near its center.
As discussed previously, when you first create a water area, InfraWorks will set
the water level to match the lowest terrain elevation of one of the vertices. If you
move or rotate the water area in the x-y plane, it will not adjust itself to the ter-
rain—it will simply retain its original elevation. You can use the vertical axis of
the move gizmo to move the entire water area up or down in elevation.
water feature Properties
The following settings on the Properties panel are helpful when working with
water areas:
Buffer width For rivers, Buffer Width is used to set the width of the water
area. For water areas, Buffer Width is used to extend the water area beyond the
perimeter or even cause it to fall short by entering a negative value.
Bank width Bank Width serves two purposes. The first is to set the width of
the bank material, which is often much different in appearance than the water
material. Second, Bank Width functions similarly to the Smooth Radius setting
that you encountered when studying coverages. A small value for Bank Width
will cause an abrupt change in elevation between the proposed water elevation
and the existing terrain. This in turn, creates a steep embankment. On the con-
trary, a large value for Bank Width allows for a more gradual change in elevation
between existing and proposed elevations, resulting in a more gradual embank-
ment slope (see Figure 4.15).
fIgure 4.15 The pond on the left has a bank width of 5 feet (1.5 meters), while the pond on
the right has a bank width of 25 feet (8 meters).
water Level Water Level, as you might guess, sets the elevation of the water
surface.
