exercise 4.3: work with water features
In this exercise you will create a decorative pond near the entrance to the indus-
trial park. You will adjust the settings for the pond so that it is at the desired ele-
vation and the embankment slope is acceptable. You will then adjust the width
of an existing river using the Buffer Width property.
If you are continuing from the previous exercise, you can skip to step 3.
Otherwise, if you haven't already done so, go to the topic's web page at www
.sybex.com/go/infraworksessentials and download the files for Chapter 4.
Unzip the files to the correct location on your hard drive according to the
instructions in the introduction.
1. If it is not already open, launch InfraWorks.
2. On the Start Page, click Open and browse to C:\InfraWorks Essentials\
Chapter 04\ . Click Ch04 Bimsville Bypass.sqlite and click Open.
3. Select the Ex_4_3 proposal.
You should see the model as it would appear at the end of Exercise 4.2
with the tree line created along the east edge of the industrial park.
4. Click Bookmarks on the Utility Bar to open the Bookmarks panel.
5. Click Industrial Park. InfraWorks will zoom to an area overlooking
the proposed industrial park area.
6. On the main toolbar, if the InfraWorks toolbar is not visible, click the
InfraWorks Home icon.
7. If the Create toolbar is not visible along the left side of your screen,
click the Create icon on the InfraWorks toolbar.
8. On the Create toolbar, click Water Areas.
9. In the Select Draw Style asset card, click Change Display Options
and select the top-left choice (Show Content Items With Text And
Thumbnail).
10. Use Change Active Facets to configure the Select Draw Style asset
card so that only water area styles are available (see FigureĀ 4.16).
