Adding detail to Your
design
So far you have learned how to build the existing conditions of your model
and then add your design ideas so that you can share them with an audience,
visualize them for yourself, or perhaps both. The design elements you have
learned to create (roads, coverages, and buildings) are typically the main
components or focal points of your design—the main course, if you will. But
nothing makes a meal like some really good sides to add color and flavor. In
this chapter, you'll look at some additional design items that you can add to
give your model detail and “life.” These items, while they may be secondary,
will make your model more interesting and add texture to its story.
In this chapter, you'll learn to
Create points of interest and configure their tooltips
Create and work with trees
Create water features and adjust them with gizmos and properties
Create barriers and adjust them with gizmos and properties
Create and edit pipelines and pipeline connectors
Add and edit city furniture
working with Points of Interest
Points of interest are used to draw attention to important locations in your
model. They can be represented in many ways, ranging from a simple col-
