In-Depth Information
Move gizmo The move gizmo has four parts: three axis arrows (x, y, and z)
and a square in the x-y plane. If you click and drag an arrow, you will move the
building along that axis. If you click and drag the square, you will move the
building in the x-y plane only.
rotate gizmo The rotate gizmo rotates the building around a point near its
center.
Height gizmo With buildings you are introduced to a new gizmo: the height
gizmo. This gizmo appears as a cyan cone atop a cyan cylinder and can move
up or down to adjust the height of the building. You can also type a value in
the tooltip to set the height numerically (see FigureĀ 3.39). The gizmo turns red
when you click it to indicate that it is active.
fIgureĀ 3.39 Editing the height of a building
It is important to understand the editing behavior of buildings. When you first
create a building, it will place itself on the terrain and will continue to follow the
terrain if you move it with the move gizmo using only the x-axis arrow, y-axis
arrow, or square area representing the x-y plane. Once you edit the base eleva-
tion using the z-axis arrow, the building stops following the terrain and now
possesses its own independent elevation. It will remain at that elevation until
you manually edit it using the z-axis arrow of the move gizmo.
