Anahï South American hideaway
49 rue Volta, 3ème • 01 48 87 88 24
Open dinner only daily
Sisters Carminia and Pilat brought a little bit of Latin
America to this old Parisian deli almost 20 years ago.
Since then, they've converted a stylish crowd, including
the occasional celeb, to the joys of Argentinian beef,
Mexican stews and assorted South American titbits.
The snug atmosphere is appealing, too. Moderate

L'Ambassade d'Auvergne hearty fare
22 rue du Grenier St-Lazare, 3ème • 01 42 72 31 22
www.ambassade-auvergne.com Open lunch & dinner daily
This two-storey tavern with heavy oak beams and
dangling hams has a well-earned reputation for serving
up Auvergne on a plate. That means sturdy farmhouse
food that's perfect for an icy winter's evening (if
slightly less appealing in the height of summer). Pork
and cabbage are menu staples, from cabbage soup
with Roquefort cheese to braised pork with cabbage
and white beans. Also on offer is the famed regional
Salers beef, as well as lamb and fish dishes. The
highlight, however, has to be the aligot , a creamy
potato and Tomme cheese mixture, delivered to the
table in a large copper dish, that is then teased into
long ribbons by deft waiters and served as a side
dish. Admittedly, you've got to be in the mood for an
intense cholesterol hit. There's also a great selection
of regional cheeses, and eau de vie (fruit-based
brandy) to round things off. Moderate
