is crucial to point that cooperatives and the cooperative movement
have played a unique and important role in this development.
Middelgrunden is one good example were 8 500 people have
done something which was a mission impossible in year 2000.
The educational efect of this cooperative has been and is still
outstanding.
The Danes are beginning to understand the job we have ahead
of us. And it is not an unattainable vision anymore. Today more
traditional energy companies and private entrepreneurs have the
biggest influence on the Danish wind energy scene anno 2013. I
accept that as a fact. But it is my strong belief that local engagement
and the cooperative understanding should have a more central and
essential role for a sustainable energy future. The ordinary players
in the energy market will not be able to deliver a sustainable energy
future without a stronger local engagement. Or the market will
deliver it too late—and I do not think we have the time to wait.
