Cooperative Movement—Important Player
in the Future
Already in the 1980s there were many projects based on coope-
ratives, and after Middelgrunden, many new energy projects have
been implemented on the same basis all over Denmark. Just to
make a short list of projects with close relations to our group in
Copenhagen: Samsø Ofshore Wind Farm, Copenhagen Photo-
voltaic Cooperative, Hvidovre Wind Turbine Cooperative, and Bio
Gasification. Also five near-shore wind farms are ready to take of
in Denmark, all with local engagement and support.
The wind industry of today is a big player on the global energy
market, however, local protests against wind turbines on land are
getting stronger. Both in Denmark and abroad. In this perspective
politicans and opinion makers in Denmark tend to forget how
important local cooperatives were when it comes to the history
and development of the unique Danish success on wind energy. It
