A Day in the South
Morning
Start your morning walk
through Berlin's southern
districts by taking the S-
Bahn (lines S7 and S1) to
Mexikoplatz . Here you
can admire the beautiful
villas and the lovely green
square before dropping in
to Café Krone in Argenti-
nische Allee for a late
breakfast. After refresh-
ments, continue on foot
or by bus (No. 211) south-
wards to the open-air
museum Museumsdorf
Düppel . From there, return
by bus via Argentinische
Allee to the Alliierten-
museum . From the
museum you can stroll
across Königin-Luise-
Straße and through the
picturesque streets right
up to the beer garden
Luise (see p93) at the
Free University, where you
may like to have lunch.
Jagdschloss Grunewald
Jagdschloss Grunewald
The small gleaming white
palace in Grunewald, dating back
to 1542, served as a hunting
lodge for the Electors. The cas-
tle, built in the Renaissance and
Baroque styles, houses a small
collection of German and Dutch

Museumsdorf Düppel
The open-air museum at
Düppel is a reminder of the fact
that Berlin once consisted of a
series of villages, with one of
the oldest settlements dating
back to the 13th century. The
lively museum is animated by
actors, who are dressed and act
out daily life as it would have
been during the Middle Ages.
There are fascinating live demon-
strations of ancient crafts such
as bread-baking, pottery and
basket-weaving. Plants are
grown as in medieval times for

Afternoon
Start your afternoon walk
at the Dahlem Museums
(see p89) . One you have
enjoyed this cultural break,
continue by U-Bahn (U2,
Dahlem-Dorf) to Krumme
Lanke, and from there, on
foot, to the S-Bahn station
Mexikoplatz. The S-Bahn
will take you to Wannsee
S-Bahn station, from where
you can reach all the sights
in southwestern Berlin.
When the weather is right,
visit Strandbad Wannsee ,
or visit the Haus der
Wannsee-Konferenz
(see p89) and then admire
the park and Schloss
Klein-Glienicke (see p89) .
After your walk, allow
yourself to be tempted by
coffee and cake or supper
at the Remise in Schloss
Klein-Glienicke (see p93) .
Your best option for the
return journey is the
S-Bahn from Wannsee.
