2 Navigate to the advps08lessons folder contained within the advpslessons folder on your computer, and
double-click advps0801.psd to open it. If an embedded Profile Mismatch dialog box appears, leave it
at the defaults and click OK.
3 Choose File > Save As. In the Save As dialog box, type advps0801_work.psd in the File Name text
field. Make sure it is in the Photoshop (PSD) format and that you are saving the file into the advps08-
lessons folder. If a dialog box about Maximize Compatibility appears, leave the option on and click
OK, and then click Save.
4 If the Layers panel is not visible, choose Window > Layers, then select the Lagoon layer.
5 Choose Filter > Convert for Smart Filters. If an Adobe Photoshop warning dialog box appears, click
OK.
6 Choose Filter > Oil Paint. The Oil Paint dialog box appears. Keep this dialog box open for the next
part of the lesson.

The Oil Paint filter requires RGB images and a supported graphics card. If it does not work as ex-
pected, it could mean that your graphics card driver is out-of-date. You can find a list of video
cards tested by Adobe by visiting adobe.com and searching for “Photoshop tested video cards.”
Exploring Oil Paint options
In this next part of the lesson, you have an opportunity to review the Oil Paint options.
As you work in this section, you might need to zoom in to see the stroke details. When zoomed in, you
can press and hold the Spacebar and click and drag to pan the image.
1 Experiment with the Stylization control by moving the slider to the right to create longer strokes and to
the left to create shorter strokes. For this part of the lesson, you can choose any size. In this example
1.78 is used.
