In-Depth Information
Images containing text or vector shapes may appear fine in low resolution when viewed on a computer dis-
play, even if the vector information is rasterized (converted into pixels.)When the same images are used
for print projects, they should retain the resolution-independent vector elements. This keeps the text and
other vector graphics looking sharp, so you do not need to worry about the jagged edges that occur when
text and shapes are rasterized. To keep the vector information, you need to save the file using a format that
retains both vector and bitmap data.

1 What does unchecking the Delete Cropped Pixels allow you to do in your image?
2 What does Smart Sharpen do to an image?
3 Why is it important to use adjustment layers?
4 When would you save a file in the .jpeg or .png format?
Answers
1 By unchecking the Delete Cropped Pixels check box, you can reposition your crop area, since the pixels
are hidden but not deleted.
2 Sharpening enhances the definition of edges in an image. The degree of sharpening that you need to ap-
ply to your own images varies depending on the quality of the original image.
3 It is important to use adjustment layers so you can make additional edits to your image adjustments after
they have been applied.
4 Typically, you would save a file in the .png or .jpeg format if you are saving it for the web or for an on-
screen presentation.
