Technical questions can also be designated as mandatory. This level of
control over the questions being asked drives the standardisation of sub-
missions and ensures all respondents are fully aware of what is required
of them. An example of an online page of a PQQ is given in Figure 7.3.
Certain eSourcing systems allow commercial pricing to be included
in web forms. With consistent and comparable pricing structures in
standardised tender documents, the online objective assessment of indi-
vidual items is possible, if structured appropriately. The use of this type
of tool requires a full understanding of procurement and the systems
involved. An example of a page from an online pricing document is
shown in Figure 7.4.
Apart from the online forms described here, an eSourcing system also
allows for additional communication between vendors and buyers. For
example, vendors are able to post messages on the system, which the
buyer's procurement leader receives in the form of an email in their
usual inbox. This direct but 'on the record' form of communication
means that the system is consistent with the guiding principles given
at the start of this chapter.
