Spending Even More at Walt Disney World
There's almost no limit to what could be spent on a first visit to Walt Disney World, with
a fat enough wallet and sufficient desire to thin it. For example, how about a couple of
newly-published authors as really expensive tour guides?
For a fuller list, see “The Comfortable Guide to Walt Disney World” on YourFirstVis-
it.net/comfortable . But a shorter list of extra spending that may significantly increase com-
fort levels on a first visit includes the following:
RENTING A CAR Disney's Magical Express (discussed in Chapter 9) will transport
your group back and forth from the airport, but it requires that guests return to
their resort for pickup no later than three hours before the flight is scheduled to
leave. With a car, you can potentially leave for the airport directly from the theme
park. On property, Disney's transportation system will get you from your Disney
hotel to the parks, but a rental car reduces waits, increases flexibility, and offers a
more comfortable, private ride. Transport to all the parks but the Magic Kingdom
is faster by car than by Disney bus: it's the only simple way to get from most resort
hotels—especially values and moderates—to another for dining, etc.; it's the only
easy way to get to the non-Disney parks; and it makes shopping, off-site dining,
and other activities much easier.
STAYING A FEW DAYS LONGER Adding two or three days to a trip—and planning on
relaxing those days—can make your vacation much more comfortable. A Disney
World trip is like a backpacking expedition—lots of walking, lots of energy used,
lots of early mornings. A few more days off can make a world of difference.
GETTING A MULTI-SPACE ROOM Even the happiest families can tire of staying togeth-
er in a single room. Several Disney lodging options—mostly at the expensive de-
luxe resorts—give you more space. Consider (in order of increasing prices) deluxe
rooms at the Wilderness Lodge, one and two bedroom villas at the Disney Vaca-
tion Club resorts, and suites at all the deluxe resorts. Much lower priced—but still
expensive—multi-room options are Family Suites at All-Star Music and at Art of
Animation, and the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. Many—but not all—of these op-
tions include full kitchens as well.
None of these are inexpensive…but they might make a real difference to comfort!
Pricing out a Walt Disney World vacation is daunting. The good news is that once you've
arrived, most everything is already taken care of and you can let loose and enjoy your trip.
In fact, if you've added the Dining Plan, the only additional costs most guests encounter in
Orlando is souvenirs (and there will be souvenirs), tips, and a few treats. With the ability to
save a substantial amount of money on resort costs and a few dollars on tickets, it's easy to
design around just about any budget.
