Swiss Family Treehouse
Skippable but fun. EMH
Evening. FP+
No. TYPE
Self-guided walking tour.
RANKING
REQUIREMENTS There are a lot of stairs up and down.
WHAT TO EXPECT The Treehouse replicates the living conditions from the popular film that
few probably remember. While interesting, the attraction is not particularly compelling and
guests visiting over one day usually have higher priorities. SCARY FACTOR Low. CAN WE
HANDLE IT? The top of the tree is high; the stairs all the way up and down can be tough on
cranky knees or hips.
WHEN TO GO Anytime attraction. See it when waits are long at other rides, or you simply are
nearby. EXPECT TO WAIT No wait to 5 minutes in the afternoon. LENGTH 10 minutes or so.
Frontierland
Home to Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and one of the park's most popular quick
services, most guests will spend a considerable amount of time in this land. Fortunately, both
rides enjoy hefty capacities that make it possible to visit them in the second hour of opera-
tion. You'll also find two anytime attractions in Frontierland: the comfortable serenading of
bears in Country Bear Jamboree, and Tom Sawyer Island, where adventures await.
Pecos Bill is the principal quick service, now offering a limited menu primarily of bur-
gers, sandwiches, and salads. Additionally, more expensive items are available beginning
at 4pm. Diamond Horseshoe once offered a lively evening show and table service fare, but
its current iteration is rarely open and serves below-average sandwiches and salads. Golden
Oak Outpost is located at the Pecos' side exit, serving waffle fries with toppings like pulled
pork and coleslaw or brown gravy and white cheddar, in addition to sweet potato nuggets
and beverages. Westward Ho alongside the river serves snacks, in addition to corn dogs.
Two to three carts also position themselves along the river across from Diamond Horseshoe,
serving turkey legs, churros, and pretzels. Lines are usually shorter at similar stands around
the corner in Liberty Square.
Of course, you'll find several merchandise opportunities here, too. Splash Mountain's
exit offers some attraction-branded merchandise, in addition to several shops between Pecos
Bill and Diamond Horseshoe that offer everything from freshly baked treats to limited-edi-
tion pins.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
RANKING Don't miss. EMH Evening. FP+ Yes. High priority. TYPE Runaway train-themed
roller coaster. REQUIREMENTS 40” or taller.
WHAT TO EXPECT Prospective miners board trains consisting of three cars, each with five
rows that seat two to three people. With top speeds under 30 miles per hour, Big Thunder is
not an intense experience, but the theming is first rate. SCARY FACTOR Minimal for a roller
coaster—there are two scenes inside caves that are loud and dark, but anyone that made it
through any other Disney coaster will be just fine. CAN WE HANDLE IT? Some motion sickness
issues for the highly susceptible, and jostling.
