In-Depth Information
( 081-50108; 5/88 Nat Sin St; r $7-14; ) A chalet mood pervades at this mazelike budget
complex. Opt for the more expensive rooms, which are bigger, newer and nicer, and
share a wide balcony that looks over the town.
Outside of Town
Some of Kalaw's best and most atmospheric accommodation is located outside of the
city centre.
Green Haven Hotel HOTEL $
( 081-50639; greenhavenhotel@gmail.com ; Oo Min Rd; r $35-50; ) The 20 tidy, wood-
panelled rooms here are housed in two imposing, two-storey white structures. To get
here, follow Min St south, turning right at the second intersection, or hop on a motor-
cycle taxi (K1000) near the market.
Pine Hill Resort HOTEL $$$
( 081-50079; pinehill.kalaw@gmail.com ; 151 Oo Min Rd; r & bungalows $70-100; ) Set
around a colonial bungalow, this hotel consists of 32 neat rooms in concrete duplex cot-
tages sprawling in immaculate gardens. 'Deluxe' rooms tack on a safe, air-con and a
bathtub. To get here, follow Min St south, turning right at the second intersection, or hop
on a motorcycle taxi (K1000) near the market.
Hill Top Villa Hotel HOTEL $$$
( 081-50346; hilltopvillayangon@gmail.com ; r & bungalows K75,000-150,000; ) The park-
like atmosphere and the tidy bungalows at this popular place are nice enough, but they
don't really justify the distance from town and the high tariff. Located about 1.5 miles
south of town via Bu Tar St.
Amara Mountain Resort HOTEL $$$
$$$
( 081-50734; www.amara-mountain.com ; 10/182 Thidar St; r $140; ) Accommodation here
is based in two attractive mock-Tudor buildings in a hilltop garden, one built in 2002 and
another more than a century previously, in 1909. The 11 rooms are equally spacious and
attractive regardless of age, with wood floors and lots of natural light, some boasting
large bathtubs and fireplace, although no TV or air-con. The only real downside is the
distance, about half a mile west of Kalaw.
