Thu Maung Restaurant BURMESE $

Burmese curry restaurants in this part of the country, Thu Maung serves rich, meaty
chicken, pork, mutton and fish curries coupled with exceptionally delicious dips, sides,
salads, pickles and trimmings. The tomato salad, made from crunchy green tomatoes, is a
work of art. Located adjacent to the steps that lead to Thein Taung Paya; the English-lan-
guage sign says 'Myanmar Restaurant'.
Ma Hnin Si Cafe TEAHOUSE

(Bu Tar St; mains from K200; 6am-6pm) There's a tiny English-language sign here, but a
better locator is the crowd of locals enjoying plates of pakoda (vegetables fried in lentil-
flour batter) and other tasty deep-fried snacks and excellent noodle dishes.

Nepal with a plate of dhal baht (rice served with lentils and other side dishes) at this con-
vivial eatery run by a Nepali family.
Pyae Pyae Shan Noodle SHAN $

bowls of the eponymous noodle, and has an English-language menu of other one-plate
dishes.
Thiri Gay Har Restaurant INTERNATIONAL, BURMESE $$$

ively full-flavoured Burmese - as well as Shan, Chinese and Western - is served at this
cute cottage.
