Sleeping & Eating
Although many travellers choose to stay in Nyaungshwe, there are also a number of up-
market resorts at the edge of the lake, or some cases, built on stilts over it. The majority
of the Inle Lake's accommodation is near Maing Thauk, although there are a few choices
at Khaung Daing.
Reservations are obligatory during the high season. All rates include breakfast. All of
the hotels can arrange pick-ups and return boat trips to/from Nyaungshwe for between
K8000 and K10,000.
In addition to the resorts, there are numerous tourist-oriented floating restaurants in
stilt houses on the lake that offer rather overpriced Chinese and Shan food, cold beers
and English-language menus. The greatest concentration of restaurants is in Ywama, but
Nampan also offers some OK choices, including two branches of
Inn Thar Lay

Owned by a cooperative of Pa-O tribal people, the bungalows here aren't particularly
sexy or well equipped, but considering that they're the least expensive Inle Lake outfit,
they come off as clean and spacious, and a relatively good deal.
The Nampan resort has a great location over open water, while the Thale U resort is
closer to shore.

Consistently the
highest-ranked hotel in the Inle Lake area, the Inle Princess is honeymoon material. The
stylish wooden cottages, decked out with handmade furniture, luxurious fabrics, potted
plants and ethnic artefacts on the walls, would not look out of place in an Asian design
magazine. The more expensive bungalows have plant-filled sun decks facing the lake.
The restaurant and staff also get positive reports.
