best thing about Isola is its serene location beside Inya Lake. Peacocks and swans strut
on the lawn, where you can enjoy light meals such as pizza, pasta and sandwiches. It's
ideal for afternoon tea (for one/two K5000/9000). You'll also find here a florist and
interior-decor shop with some interesting local crafts.

Popular with tour groups, the Green Elephant is a safe but tasty
enough introduction to Myanmar cuisine. It has a new, easier-to-find location opposite
Aung San Suu Kyi's home near Inya Lake. You'll also find an upmarket crafts shop here.

An airy wood-beamed dining hall with verandas for outdoor dining is the setting for
this pan-Myanmar restaurant. On the menu are a wide range of ethnic dishes that you're
unlikely to find elsewhere, including plenty of vegetarian options.

One of the better and more elegant restaur-
ants in Yangon, L'Opera boasts well-trained and smartly dressed waiters, but more im-
portant is the Italian owner and chef's meticulous preparation. The outdoor garden seat-
ing is a bonus in good weather. Next to the bakery at the front of the property is the small
cafe Il Fornaio.
