In-Depth Information
If you have a smartphone or other mobile device that can receive e-mail, be sure to add the mobile device's e-mail ad-
dress to your Contacts card (use the Other e-mail address field or create a custom field). This way, if you choose
Email as the alert type, you can then choose your mobile device's address, which enables you to get the reminder
while you're on the go.
Follow these steps to add an alert to an event:
1. If you want to add the alert to a new event, display the date, click the time, and then choose File
New Event, or press +N. Fill in the other event details as needed.
2. Double-click the event and then click Edit.
3. Click the alert list and then click the type of alert you want:
Message. Displays a pop-up message with the event particulars.
Message with sound. Displays a pop-up message accompanied by a sound effect that you choose.
Email. Sends a message with the event particulars to the e-mail address specified in your Contacts
card. If you have multiple addresses, you get to choose the one you prefer to use for the alert.
Open file. Opens a file or program that you specify.
Run script. Runs a script file that you specify.
4. If the alert requires more data, such as choosing a sound file, e-mail address, file, or script, use the
list provided to make your choice.
5. Choose the reminder unit, such as minutes before or days before, and then set the number of units.
Figure 4.13 shows a completed example of an alert.
