Many hotels and Wi-Fi hot spots block access to port 25.
Here's how to use Mail to configure an e-mail account to use a nonstandard SMTP port:
1. Choose Mail
→
Preferences.
The Mail preferences appear.
2. Click the Accounts icon.
3. In the Accounts list, click the icon for the POP account with which you want to work.
4. Click the Account Information tab.
5. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) list, choose Edit SMTP Server List.
6. In the list of SMTP servers, click the server with which you want to work.
7. Click the Advanced tab.
8. Select the Use custom port option.
9. In the Use custom port text box, type the port number you want to use.
For example, Figure 6.7
shows an SMTP server configured to use port 2500.
