There are a number of areas where a matte can be fine-tuned. You can add a Blur node from the Add menu
under Filter > Blur. Blur nodes can be used to soften the edge of the matte. Another filter node, Dilate/Erode,
can be used to expand or shrink the white area of the matte, which can be useful for tightening, or choking , the
matte around the subject. Blurring can be used on the matte itself before using the matte to set the alpha value
of the foreground image or later in the composite. The Blur and Dilate/Erode nodes are shown in Figure 9-79 .
