Step 13:
Of course, we could go on and on retouch-
ing this image to death, but instead we're
going to finish it off by sharpening the
image while we're here in Photoshop (it's
easier to see the effect of your sharpening
here in Photoshop), and for photos of
women, we apply the sharpening a little
differently—we do it so we avoid sharpen-
ing their skin very much, because that
would emphasize their skin texture, which
is fine for guys, but you generally don't
want to make women look “texturey.”
To do the sharpening , f first create another
merged layer on top, then go to the Chan-
nels panel and click on the Red channel (if
you look at the other two channels, Green
and Blue, you'll see they contain most of
the skin texture, so by applying our sharp-
ening just to the Red channel, it sharpens
her eyes, lips, hair, eyebrows, and so on,
while avoiding most of her skin).
Step 14:
Once you're on the Red channel, go under
the Filter menu, under Sharpen, and choose
Unsharp Mask . When the dialog appears,
for Amount, enter 120%, for Radius, enter
1.0, and for Threshold, enter 3, then click
OK. Now, click back on the RGB channel
in the Channels panel.
