Step Seven:
Now, click back on the top smart object
layer and then Option-click (PC: Alt-click)
on the Add a Layer Mask icon at the bot-
tom of the Layers panel to hide this layer
behind a black mask. Get the Brush tool
(B) , and with your Foreground color set
to white, paint over the areas from the
Lightroom 3 processing that you want to
appear on the Lightroom 4 version (for
example, here I painted over his hair, the
sides of his face, and his red wrist wraps).
Step Eight:
Lastly, I clicked on the Create a New Layer
icon at the bottom of the Layers panel
and added a new blank layer on top just
to paint black over the background area
(with the Brush tool), so you don't see
that lens flare stuff in the background.
Here's the final image, using a combination
of the old Lightroom 3 Fill Light slider,
and the new Lightroom 4 processing
power. Sweet!
