Removing Facebook Chat from Messages
To remove Facebook Chat from Messages, again open Messages' Preferences
dialog box and ensure that the Accounts tab is activated. Then select the
CHAT.FACEBOOK.COM
option in the list, and click the minus button directly beneath
the list of chat servers.
Exploring OS X: Folder Actions
Wouldn't it be useful if you could make something happen automatically whenever
a file was added to a folder? Or even if somebody simply accessed the folder?
The Folder Actions feature of OS X fulfills this need. It lets you attach one or more
AppleScripts or Automator actions to a folder, which can be run whenever the folder
is opened, closed, moved, resized, has things added, or has things removed.

For example, you could have a folder action convert to JPEG any image file added to
a folder, regardless of its original format. You could have a folder pop up an alert box
to the user whenever it's accessed, explaining what the folder contains. A folder could
automatically print any file added to it.
Any folder in your
USER
folder can have a folder action attached—just right-click it and
select Folder Actions Setup. Several example AppleScripts are provided by Apple and
are listed when you configure a folder action, but many more are freely available
online, created by third-party developers, and they're often geared toward specific
tasks such as processing music files for iTunes. Just search Google. Some are provided
within the Mac App Store too—again, all you need to do is search. Any you download
should be placed in
/LIBRARY/SCRIPTS/FOLDERACTIONSCRIPTS/

Preview Widgets
If you download new Dashboard widgets, you have to install them to your
Dashboard before you can run them. This is counterintuitive because it might
transpire that the widget isn't much use, in which case you have to go through
the work of uninstalling it.
